American College of Gastroenterology

The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) is a Bethesda, Maryland-based medical association of gastroenterologists.
The association was founded in 1932 and holds annual meetings and regional postgraduate continuing education courses, establishes research grants, and publishes ''The American Journal of Gastroenterology''. More than 12,000 physicians from 82 countries are members of the ACG. Through annual scientific meetings, regional postgraduate training courses and research grants, the ACG provides its members with the most accurate and up-to-date scientific information on digestive health and the etiology, symptomatology and treatment of GI disorders.
The current president (2014-2015) is Dr. Stephen B. Hanauer. Notable past-presidents include Dr. Eamonn Quigley, the first Irish man to serve as president, and Dr. Christina Surawicz, the first woman president (the "Sylvia Pankhurst" of gastroenterology and recurrent C. diff) whose pioneering work for women in the field paved the way for Dr. Amy Foxx-Orenstein's presidency.
